The Rotational Molding Process Rotational molding is a very simple process for manufacturing hollow , seamless products of all sizes and shapes. Due to its simple operation & relatively low cost molds, this process has become very popular for manufacturing large hollow items like water storage tanks. Rotational molding is a three stage process. In the first stage polymer powder is loaded in the mold manually and the mold is closed. The mold is then shifted to the heating oven . Here the mold is heated by forced hot air circulation. While the mold is heated it is also rotated about two perpendicular axes simultaneously. Polymer melts and forms a homogenous layer inside the mold. The mold is shifted to a cooling station where forced air cools the mold. The mold is opened and finished part is taken out. Unlike injection and blow molding, rotational molding does not involve high pressures , hence the products are stress free and have uniform wall thickness . Accurate control of the process is very important for producing quality products in rotomolding. Rotational Molding Machine With increase in production levels , and market competition , selection of proper rotational molding machine assumes great importance. Following are main types of machines we make at Vinodrai Incorporated. A) Rock-n-Roll Type : These are low cost , open flame machines , suited for low volume and large size products. Difficulty in maintaining uniform wall thickness and requirement of skilled operators are main disadvantages. B) Bi-Axial Type : These are highly productive , state of the art machines , suitable for large volume productions. Uniform wall thickness , consistent quality , operator independent process control are a few advantages of these machines. Two Arm Bi-Axial 1000 Litre Machine. Model VI-2-1000. Model VI-2-1000 is a two arm bi-axial type machine . Recommended maximum capacity of this machine is 1000 litre mold on L arm and two molds of 500 litre on straight arm. Equipment included in Model VI-2-1000 is as follows. 1) Oven Chamber : Constructed of steel structure , with stainless steel sheet in combustion zone and high temperature aluminium paint coated sheet in working zone. Each panel is fully insulated with a combination of ceramic and mineral wool. Oven doors are constructed with 75 mm light weight sheet metal "Z" sections. Doors are operated by 0.5 hp. geared motor. Door drive is protected by overload clutch. Burner with capacity of 1,60,000.00 kcal / Hr. is used for rapid heat recovery. Monoblock type Italian burner is used with fully automatic ignition system and temperature control. A 5.0 hp. high volume recirculating blower is used for hot air circulation. Blower is made from stainless steel to give maximum life. A 1.0 hp. exhaust blower is also provided. 2) Rotating Unit : The rotating unit is of welded steel construction , consisting of two arms. On standard machine we provide one offset arm and one straight arm. Each arm is driven by two DC motors . Major axis drive is 2 hp. and Minor axis drive is 1 hp.. Arm structure is heavy-duty and bearing system is very rugged. Trolley movement and turret rotation is automatic by 1 hp. geared motor each. Trolley and turret drives are protected by overload clutches. 3) Cooling Section : We provide two high power air circulating fans for faster cooling of molds. 4) Control Panel : Sheet steel , powder coated housing enclosing all controls. Mains switch fuse unit , D.C.Drives , Process timers , Motor starters , overload protection and alarm buzzers assist in process control. 5) Unique Double Layer Attachment : Developed for the first time we optionally offer a unique double layer attachment for producing double layer water tank. 6) Estimated Production Capacity: The machine can produce upto 48000 Litres capacity of water tanks per day on three shift basis.
